drafting, thinking...

During the past week or so, I've been applying some of the ideas I'd learned during my first pattern making class. I've drafted some skirts, but the sewn up garments have turned out to be all kinds of wrong. It's been so frustrating! Today I figured out where and why I went wrong. I'm hoping with a bit more fine tuning, the ideas I've been working on can come to be. I tend to be someone who wants results fast, but drafting your own patterns makes things happen a lot more slowly. I'm finding I have to slow down -which is good! So now, I'm happily bumbling along, slowing down, and sticking to the rules instead of taking shortcuts. As a result, I hope to soon have drafted a pattern for a simple skirt that will flatter most figures (especially mummy tummies!) and be a blank canvas for some screen printing. Time will tell I guess!

Love those photos, Sherrin... just gorgeous. I can see I really need to have you as my sewing guru re slowing down and getting it right :) Oh, but the thrill of happy accidents!! I just wish they outnumbered the sad back-of-the-cupboard fillers! ;) Great post - thank you! Kylie x

I am excited to see what you come up with ...the drafting stuff is such a pain! I am looking forward to a skirt that will hide my Mummy tummy (Is it still called a mummy tummy if the youngest is almost 15?)

Your description of "all kinds of wrong" made me laugh! Good for you for not giving up and following your tendancies. And I noted the "Today I fgured out". Sometimes it's important to remember to walk away and come back with fresh eyes. Can't wait to see your slowly put together mummy-tummy-hiding skirt...

I admire your persistance, very good! I am just like that: wanting results very fast, preferably yesterday ;-) I can't wait to see the result of your journey. I bet it will be great!
