the idea was there

It's been a while since I have printed from a hand cut stencil rather than using a screen I've exposed. I am really seeing why exposed screens are so much better... so much cleaner. I had a go at cutting a stencil from acetate to print onto denim. It worked, but not at all cleanly. I had to patch some bits up with a fine paint brush. I don't get it. I never used to have any hassles with hand cut stencils. We'll just chalk this one up to experience and part of the design process! The plan was for some bare, simple trees to work along the bottom part of a skirt... I'll be trying again, as I have an idea of how I want this to work, and it shouldn't be hard.

dragster tees

I've just started listing some dragster tees in my etsy store. So far I've only got one up, but there should be some more sizes in the next couple of days. If anyone is interested in getting one custom made, please contact me... custom orders make me happy! :o)

my creative space

My creative space this week is filled with piles of bits and pieces, projects I want to get started on, things just finished, and some op-shopped finds. I've just finished this little dress this morning, and cut up a couple of batches of soap. I also have a stack of books I bought from a Yarraville op-shop the other day. How good are these books! The Explore Australia is from 1980, and is full of tickets and other travelling paraphernalia from that era. The 'see and say' books are classic, as is the carpentry book. It must be from the early 50's. It's full of lots of old school carpentry advice, such as how to properly lay asbestos. Ever useful advise.Have a look at some more creative spaces over at Kootoyoo.

cranking

I have been cranking out the skirts over the past week. I've found a few great fabrics, including the gorgeous Japanese wool in the pictures here, and have been sewing up a storm. I feel like I'm onto something here... lots of people have been buying these! (If you want to come and have a look, they're at Olive Grove in Brunswick.) Hooray! I have been thinking of putting them up on Etsy in a make to order kind of scenario, but the problem is they don't photograph as well as I'd like (and I'm struggling to edit the pictures too... omilord some less than great pics here!). They're the kind of thing that look much better on... I need me a model! I've tried getting my partner to photograph me before, but I always end up looking like a misshapen pumpkin. With lumps. Gawd. I think I should leave it there. I have been up to my ears in tax all day, and am feeling rather fuzzy around the edges.......
